Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're seeking a buggy to run with or just a compact stroller for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight spaces.

If you want a smooth ride with your pram, choose models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. However, they are more prone to punctures, so be prepared with a repair kit.

Sturdy frame

The latest figures have been released that show that the three-wheeled buggy - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sanity is in a decline. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more versatile and easy to drive while still looking stylish.

The general rule is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear, make it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or in difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and a 3 wheel double buggy year old and found it was able to handle cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and require to be pumped up occasionally and have a suspension built-in. This was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The shape and size of the seat is another thing to consider. You want the seat to be large enough for your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies will have a full lie-flat option while others only allow for the parent to be facing one.

A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. It can be used as a one-person unit from the beginning and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers up to age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and a spacious cushioned seat. Larger wheels

Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability when driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the pushchair through narrow spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that assist you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel baby stroller wheel pushchairs come with air filled tyres which means they can handle a variety of terrains and are more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you'll need a repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.

Easy to maneuver

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3 wheeled travel system-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain with the swivel rear wheel being especially helpful. I was also awed by the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. I found it extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."

The only downside to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you need to keep in mind when you live in an urban area. If this is a problem, a 4-wheeled buggy may be a better option for you.
