How to Replace an audi a3 replacement key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector audi key replacement Cost and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, as i believe that i've eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about fuel injector timing etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

The signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox and audi car Key Replacement cost gears that shift faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you're in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. They're inexpensive and easy to locate particularly if they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of many issues with your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your programming audi key because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine of the audi car keys is spinning. If this sensor fails, it can disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points.
