3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-roading and provides a smooth ride for baby. They are also easier to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheeler especially those equipped with fabric slings or modular seat units, which are placed in a tight position within the frame and provide the most efficient geometry and distribution of weight.

Stability

Three-wheeled vehicles are very stable, which makes them a great choice for off-road walking (especially when equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). They typically have large front tires that can withstand bumps, kerbs, and rough terrain. Some models have a lockable wheel on the front to provide additional stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It's worth bearing in mind that 3 wheel stroller-wheel buggies have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels which means that they fall over more easily. But, the top 3-wheel pushchairs have perfect geometry and engineering to make them very solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn at a whim and be easy to steer using just one hand, and feature a 360o swivelling front wheel that makes them great for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.

Look for models that have pneumatic tyres. These are made to work on tracks that are not paved, and should be able to take on dirt, gravel, rocks and other debris. A lot of all-terrain buggies have an swivelling wheel on the front which can be locked for extra stability when you're dealing with rough terrain.

A 3-wheel pram is also an excellent option for runners or for those who like to walk fast and uphill, especially when you plan to attach an infant car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It has a flat-reclining seat with a 5-point harness, and plenty of storage space to store all your gear (plus the ability to extend 50+ of the sun hood). It's compact, lightweight and suitable from birth and can be used in conjunction with car seats or a carrycot. It also allows for a bit of light jogging, but isn't designed for serious runners.

Weight

If you are seeking a buggy that can tackle difficult terrain, then you should choose one with big tires. These are made to handle dirt, cobbles, and grass tracks easily, while still providing a smooth ride. They are also great for jogging as they're equipped with suspension and are simple to move up and down kerbs. The downside is that they're quite heavy to push.

The best 3-wheel buggy for rough terrain is the Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 (pictured above). The 3-wheel buggy comes with 16 rear wheels and a lockable swivel front wheel which makes it very maneuverable. It comes with tyres filled with air which require pumping up from time to time. It can carry children up until the age of three wheel pushchair. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the shape of the seat and she found it easy to steer with her 3-year-old son on the board.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another excellent option. It comes with a movable handlebar, a hood made of high-end materials that provides 50+ UV protection and a high-quality hood. It is also easy to move kerbs upwards and downwards and fits into a small car boot. It can also be used as a pram, with a carrycot or infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.

Fabric slings are set inside the frame, not on top like modular seats. This design delivers a lower center of gravity that is at the ideal height, making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you should never underestimate how often you'll do this when you're a new parent!)

Seating

The seating capacity of strollers 3 wheels wheelers is quite impressive, and there are a number of different options to choose from. For a newborn it is possible to use the included carrycot plus (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy) and older infants and toddlers can sit in the parent-facing or world-facing seat that is spacious and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats don't recline fully however they can be lowered to the lowest level which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A fabric sling seat is also available, which is placed snugly within the frame instead of sitting on top as a modular seat and this provides a lower center of gravity as well as a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath was impressed with the way that this style of seat handled these obstacles.

This kind of buggy comes with an extensive basket and other useful features like an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal and some innovative visibility lights that can be placed in front of the occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

If you're looking for a buggy that will grow along with your family it's the sport(tm) is a first in the world, can accommodate the newborn, and later be adapted to accommodate two or three children as they grow. All within a single footprint.

Storage

The 3 wheel baby buggy-wheeled model is more sturdy and can be moved by one hand. It's also more suitable for difficult terrain. However, it also means that the shopping basket can't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

A high-quality ATP will have pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for better comfort, and an excellent suspension. It will accommodate a carrycot or a car seat, so you can use it right from birth.

The MFM reviewers noted that the 3 wheeled buggies-wheeler frames couldn't fit through their home's doors or car boot. If you're concerned about space, make sure you check the dimensions when the buggy is folded prior to purchasing.

It's worth looking into 3 wheel parent facing pushchair (view publisher site)-wheelers that can accommodate 2 (or even 3!) seats when your family grows - these are the most efficient of both and will help you save money in the future. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most popular. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy, and later converted into twin buggies once your baby is walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres have been designed to provide your child with an easier ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. These are used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted’s Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also noted that its grippy tyres made it easy to tackle cobbles and kerbs.

These tyres are sometimes tricky to keep inflated and will need to be topped up frequently. They are also more prone to punctures than foam tyres. So you'll need to ensure that you have repair kits with spare tubes and a pump handy when traveling with your buggy.

PU tyres are more commonly used on pushchairs because they are less expensive than air-filled tyres but are just as robust. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide easily on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

It's usually possible to discern the distinction between air-filled and PU tire by running your fingers over them, if it feels firm, then it's rubber and when it slides, it's a PU. You can also determine if your buggy is fitted with PU tyres sliding them across flat, clean surfaces. They should roll smoothly and fit snugly into the wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable as the foam loses its springy quality. These tyres also make a lot of noise, as they make a lot noise when you turn and navigate around town.
